  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Royal icing or colored sprinkles for decoration

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla bean paste.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, adding milk as needed, until the dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes.
  • Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out heart shapes and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are just beginning to turn golden. Cool completely, then decorate with royal icing or sprinkles.

Notes

- Chill the dough to make it easier to roll out.
- Use parchment paper to prevent cookies from sticking.
