Spellbook Brownies – Magical, Fudgy, and Perfect for Halloween

These spellbook brownies are rich, fudgy, and perfect for Halloween. Topped with chocolate ganache and decorated like a spooky spellbook.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp espresso powder optional but recommended
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs + 1 yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  •  

For Ganache:

  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  •  

For Decoration:

  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 –5 tsp water
  • Black food gel
  • 8 candy eyes

Instructions
 

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×9 pan with parchment.
  • 2. Whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, espresso powder, and salt in a bowl.
  • 3. Melt butter, oil, and 1/2 cup sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • 4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, yolk, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla.
  • 5. Slowly mix in melted butter mixture while whisking.
  • 6. Fold in dry ingredients and chocolate chips.
  • 7. Pour batter into pan and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  • 8. Cool completely before ganache.
  • 9. Heat cream, pour over chocolate chips, stir to combine.
  • 10. Spread ganache over brownies, chill for 1 hour.
  • 11. Mix confectioner’s sugar with water and black food gel.
  • 12. Pipe stitches on brownies and add a candy eye to each.

Notes

Add edible marker details for extra personality.
Brownies can be made 1–2 days ahead.
Store in airtight container at room temp for 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
