Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats Use quality rolled oats for the best texture.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute half with whole wheat flour.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Plus more for sprinkling on top.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted For a richer flavor.
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Use for natural sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use your favorite type of chocolate.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt, mixing until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan and lightly press it down.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set, but slightly soft.

Cooling

  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Let them cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For the best texture, avoid overbaking. Allow sufficient cooling time to prevent crumbling. Experiment with different mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit for variety.
