  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 oz high-quality dark chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder for frosting
  • 1/4 cup butter softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar for frosting
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste for frosting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt butter and dark chocolate in a double boiler. Allow to cool slightly.
  • Whisk together sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until light and bubbly.
  • Gradually fold in the chocolate mixture.
  • Add flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool and cut out heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  • For frosting: Beat cocoa powder, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla bean paste until smooth.
  • Frost cooled brownies and serve.

Notes

- Use a double boiler for melting chocolate to avoid scorching.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies chewy.
