Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Pink/red food coloring
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Strawberry or raspberry sauce

Instructions
 

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • 2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  • 3. Mix dry ingredients, then alternate adding with milk to butter mixture.
  • 4. Bake for 18–20 minutes. Cool completely.
  • 5. Tint frosting pale pink. Fill piping bag with round tip.
  • 6. Pipe center line, then squiggly brain folds on each side.
  • 7. Drizzle strawberry or raspberry sauce for a gory effect.
  • 8. Serve on a spooky tray.

Use red velvet cupcakes for a blood-red surprise inside.
