- 1 cup sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
1. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns golden amber. Add the butter and stir until melted.
2. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and sea salt until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool.
3. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
4. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
6. Spread the dessert base in a greased 9-inch square baking dish.
7. Pour the caramel sauce over the base and swirl gently with a knife.
8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set. Let cool before serving.
Caramel sauce can be made a week in advance and stored in the fridge.
