Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Instructions
 

  • 1. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns golden amber. Add the butter and stir until melted.
  • 2. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and sea salt until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • 3. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • 4. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  • 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  • 6. Spread the dessert base in a greased 9-inch square baking dish.
  • 7. Pour the caramel sauce over the base and swirl gently with a knife.
  • 8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Caramel sauce can be made a week in advance and stored in the fridge.
Dessert can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for a month.
