Ingredients
  

For the Pancakes

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and sugar until evenly combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

Cooking

  • Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it.
  • Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look set.
  • Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 2 minutes, or until they're puffed and cooked through. Look for a lightly browned surface.
  • Remove from the skillet and repeat with the remaining batter, keeping finished pancakes warm in a low oven if desired.
  • Drizzle with chocolate sauce just before serving.

Notes

For best results, do not overmix the batter. Keep pancakes warm in the oven if making a large batch. Adjust sweetness to taste.
