A simple recipe for making classic sweet and sticky popcorn balls at home, perfect for snacks or parties.
Ingredients
12 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
Optional: cooking spray or extra butter for hands
Instructions
1. Pop the popcorn according to package directions. Remove any unpopped kernels. Place in a large heatproof bowl.
2. In a medium saucepan, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until butter is melted and sugar dissolved.
3. Bring mixture to a boil without stirring. Boil for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla bean paste.
4. Carefully pour hot syrup over popcorn. Stir gently until evenly coated.
5. Cool until mixture is warm and pliable, about 5-10 minutes. Grease hands with butter or cooking spray.
6. Form popcorn into 3-inch balls, pressing firmly.
7. Place on wax paper or parchment to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
