Description
These spellbook brownies are rich, fudgy, and perfect for Halloween. Topped with chocolate ganache and decorated like a spooky spellbook.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp espresso powder (optional but recommended)
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter
2 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs + 1 yolk
2 tsp vanilla extract
2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
For Ganache:
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
For Decoration:
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2–5 tsp water
Black food gel
8 candy eyes
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×9 pan with parchment.
2. Whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, espresso powder, and salt in a bowl.
3. Melt butter, oil, and 1/2 cup sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, yolk, 1 cup sugar, and vanilla.
5. Slowly mix in melted butter mixture while whisking.
6. Fold in dry ingredients and chocolate chips.
7. Pour batter into pan and bake for 25–30 minutes.
8. Cool completely before ganache.
9. Heat cream, pour over chocolate chips, stir to combine.
10. Spread ganache over brownies, chill for 1 hour.
11. Mix confectioner’s sugar with water and black food gel.
12. Pipe stitches on brownies and add a candy eye to each.

Add edible marker details for extra personality.
Brownies can be made 1–2 days ahead.
Store in airtight container at room temp for 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
