A deliciously gooey and aromatic side dish perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 (8-ounce) loaf Italian bread
2 medium scallions, thinly sliced
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
3 ounces low-moisture shredded mozzarella cheese
3 ounces Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 425ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
2. Cut the Italian bread in half horizontally, then cut each half crosswise to make 4 pieces.
3. In a bowl, mix softened butter, scallions (reserve 1 tablespoon for garnish), garlic, mayonnaise, garlic powder, black pepper, sugar, and salt into a paste.
4. Spread the garlic butter evenly on the cut sides of the bread.
5. Combine mozzarella and Parmesan in a bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the bread.
6. Bake for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and browned in spots.
7. Garnish with reserved scallions and serve warm.
Notes
Use high-quality butter for the best flavor.
For extra spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.
