Banana Honey Bone Biscuits: Crispy Treats Dogs Love

The Memory Behind This Treat

The first time I made Banana Honey Bone Biscuits was during a cozy autumn weekend when the leaves were just beginning to turn golden. My old pal Charlie, a spirited golden retriever with a nose for all things delicious, was sprawled out on the kitchen floor. I had an overripe banana begging to be used and a jar of honey that I’d brought back from a recent trip to a quaint country farm. The combination seemed perfect for a homemade dog treat adventure.

I remember the comforting aroma of baking banana and peanut butter filling the kitchen, mingling with the sweet hint of honey. Charlie’s tail thumped against the floor in eager anticipation, a rhythmic beat that matched the warmth of the moment. As I pressed the dough into bone-shaped molds, I couldn’t help but think of how often we overlook the joy of making something special for our furry friends.

The best part? Watching Charlie’s eyes light up as I pulled those golden biscuits from the oven, his delight mirrored my own satisfaction. Baking these Banana Honey Bone Biscuits quickly became a tradition, a small way to show love and appreciation to the dog who had shared so many adventures with me. Each time I make them, I remember that day, the simple joy of baking, and the bond we share with our pets through these thoughtful, homemade treats.

How To Make It (Mix & Ingredients)

Making these Banana Honey Bone Biscuits is as easy as wagging a tail! Start by gathering your dry ingredients: 1 cup of wheat flour and ⅔ cup of rolled oats. Mix them together in a bowl and set it aside. These dry ingredients form the base of your dough, adding structure and a bit of crunch to the biscuits.

In a separate bowl, mash 1 ripe banana until smooth. Add ⅓ cup of peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir these together until you have a sweet, sticky mixture that will make these biscuits irresistible to your furry friend. The banana adds natural sweetness and a pleasing aroma, while the honey gives a subtle, golden touch.

Preparing Banana Honey Bone Biscuits step by step cooking process

Now, combine the two mixtures. Stir a beaten egg into the flour and oats first. This helps bind everything together. Then gradually add the banana mixture to the dry ingredients. I recommend adding it in halves—mix half, then the other. Don’t worry if the dough seems a bit dry; this is normal! You can lightly oil your hands if needed to prevent sticking when you shape the biscuits.

Roll out the dough or press it into a bone-shaped silicone mold if you’re feeling fancy. Bake these delightful treats at 300°F for 30-35 minutes, or until they turn a lovely golden brown. Just ensure they’re cool before letting your pup dig in. You might also enjoy making Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits for a little variety in their treat stash!

Make-Ahead & Storage

Making a batch of Banana Honey Bone Biscuits ahead of time is a fantastic way to ensure your furry friend always has a delicious treat on hand. These biscuits can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If you prefer to keep them fresh longer, pop them in the fridge, where they’ll stay good for about 2 weeks. Just be sure to let them come to room temperature before serving your pup for the best crunch!

For those who love planning ahead, these biscuits freeze beautifully. Once baked, allow them to cool completely and then place them in a resealable freezer bag. They’ll keep for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to treat your dog, just take a few out and let them thaw naturally. If you’re in a hurry, a quick zap in the microwave for a few seconds will do the trick, but be sure they’ve cooled before serving.

Remember, if your Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits become a bit soft while stored, a quick stint in a low oven (about 250°F for 5-10 minutes) will help them regain that delightful crunch. Keep your pup’s taste buds tantalized by mixing up the shapes or trying other tasty variations like these Pumpkin Dog Biscuits. Your furry friend is sure to wag their tail in gratitude!

Best Ingredients & Party Variations

When crafting Banana Honey Bone Biscuits, choosing top-notch ingredients ensures your furry friend gets both flavor and nutrition. Ripe bananas are key for natural sweetness and moisture, making them easier to mash and blend. Opt for a creamy peanut butter that’s unsalted and xylitol-free to keep it dog-safe. Honey adds a hint of sweetness and a touch of indulgence, perfect for a special treat. Don’t forget the wheat flour and rolled oats; these provide structure and texture, and they’re great for canine digestion.

For party-ready variations, consider shaping these biscuits into festive themes with cookie cutters—think paws or bones for a doggie birthday bash! You can also mix in a teaspoon of ground cinnamon for an extra aromatic twist. If your pup has dietary restrictions, swap out wheat flour with oat flour for a gluten-free option. For a crunchy variation, let them bake a few minutes longer until golden brown.

1 cup Flour wheat

⅔ cup Rolled Oats

1 Banana mashed

⅓ cup Peanut Butter

1 tbsp Honey

1 Egg beaten

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 300 and prep any baking sheets for nonstick. I prep a silicon baking mold when I use it in a recipe such as this one.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine together the flour and oats. Set this bowl aside. Next, in another bowl, blend together the banana, peanut butter and honey.
  • Stir the beaten egg into the dry ingredients from the first bowl. Then blend in the ingredients from the second bowl with the first bowl. This works best when you add half of the contents from the second bowl to the first bowl, gently stir, and then add the remaining bowl contents.
  • This dough will seem to be a bit dry however that is normal. Since you will be working with your hands to either roll out the dough or press it into the molds, you could run a bit of oil over your hands first to prevent sticking.
  • Bake the dog biscuits for 30-35 minutes or until they begin to brown. Allow these cookies to cool before serving.

As mentioned, wheat flour is the preferred flour to use in a recipe such as this one. You will also need rolled oats to make these. You can make this recipe using a sugar free peanut butter or you can make your own sugar free peanut butter using this recipe.
